I drove to the hospital on the afternoon of November 17th, but there was no panic or rush in my mind. My wife Lauren was scheduled to be induced, so we knew it might be a while before the baby arrived. We got to our room, and she was connected to countless monitors and wires. Despite everything, she was in good spirits as we waited, and we even had time to watch a movie that evening. We chose How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days—one of her favorites. After the movie we tried to get some sleep, but it was a sleepless night for both of us. The next day arrived before we knew it, and everything started moving along much faster.
At 6:30 on November 18th, our little guy took his first breath in this world—and immediately started crying. The doctor reassured us that his crying was a thing though, so I wasn’t too worried. We sat there in awe and silence as our family of two became a family of three. After spending a little time together, baby Henry got his first bath and quickly fell asleep in our arms. After all, being born is exhausting. We got moved to a new room, and my parents brought Lauren a jersey mike’s sub—a treat she had been dreaming about for the last 9 months. We tried to get some rest that night but struggled as we tried to grasp how our lives had just changed. One change was clear: my heart grew two sizes that day.
